The Olympic Bell

Commissioned by the “Look of the City” Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games, this bell was installed in a pedestrian walkway at Thesseion Square in Athens, near the entrance area of the Acropolis, for the duration of the Summer Olympic Games.

The polished aluminum bell hangs from cables attached to two supports.  A hammer is supported by a third structure.  Several pulls on a heavy rope, give the hammer enough momentum to ring the bell, producing a deep, harmonious tone that can be heard for several minutes.

This work is now installed at Old Frog Pond Farm in Harvard, Massachusetts, as part of an outdoor sculpture exhibit.
